The Tonner Doll Company was established in 1991 and was well-known for both its ingenuity and quality.

It was primarily known for the Tyler Wentworth 16" line of fashion dolls, but had earned a new audience with its 'character figures' based on characters in pop culture and movies.

The company made its first BJD line, Evangeline Ghastly, in 2007 under the Wilde Imagination imprint. The first Tonner-line BJDs were given as gifts to convention attendees in 2008 (Lady G, Posey, and Daffy). Ball-jointed Tyler Wentworth and Betsy McCall dolls were also announced in 2008.

As of December 31, 2019, the company has shut down.
